Skydive Sim Brings Dynamic Water to Google Earth

Google Earth has made it possible for Skydive Sim players to jump, fly, and explore locations around the world. But there has always been one visual limitation: oceans, lakes, and coastlines were part of the satellite imagery, making the water appear flat and motionless.

Bringing the Water to Life

Skydive Sim now adds animated, dynamic water to supported Google Earth scenes.

Instead of looking down at flat water imagery in Google Earth scenes, players can see water and wave movement across the surface as they approach the coast, fly under canopy, cruise in Power Glider Mode, explore with jetpacks, or relax close to the water in Explore Mode.

It may sound like a small visual upgrade, but water covers a huge portion of the world. Adding motion makes coastal locations feel more immersive and helps the Google Earth environment feel less like a map and more like a living place.

Experience It Your Way

Dynamic water can be experienced throughout Skydive Sim.

You can see it while falling toward a coastal location, flying along the shoreline under canopy, or using Explore Mode to move slowly above the waves.

Explore Mode is especially suited for players who want a more relaxed experience. There is no need to rush toward deployment or prepare for a landing. You can simply travel through the environment, visit familiar places, discover new locations, and enjoy the view at your own pace.

For players who want more action, the same locations can still become full skydiving and jetpack experiences.

Built for Google Earth on Meta Quest

Adding dynamic water to Google Earth scenes presented a unique challenge.

Skydive Sim streams detailed real-world terrain while also running skydiving physics, canopy flight, weather, multiplayer systems, and VR rendering. The water needed to feel alive without placing too much additional demand on standalone Meta Quest headsets.

After extensive development and optimization, we were able to create a system that enhances the environment while remaining practical for VR.

More Than a Skydiving Simulator

Skydive Sim continues to expand beyond the traditional idea of a skydiving simulator.

Players can practice freefall, fly different canopy setups, experience malfunctions, jump with friends, use real-world winds, explore with a jetpack, or simply travel through Google Earth locations in VR.

Dynamic water is another step toward making those locations feel more immersive—whether you are training, competing, exploring, or relaxing above the coast.
